A few competitions that I have come across...

Publishers 'Mardibooks' are looking for stories from people who are interested in writing young adult fiction. They are offering up to 30 members of ideastap a chance to have their work published. This window of opportunity closes on Monday 3 March 2014 at 5pm . So if you aren't in you 'll never know. Therefore now might just be the time to get writing.

Another very exciting short story competition albeit for Irish writers only (Irish being anywhere in the 32 counties of Ireland) is the Davy Byrnes Short Story award 2014  see below link.

This competition is open Irish citizens only  and to writers who are resident or were born in the thirty-two counties of Ireland. Entries must consist of a previously unpublished short story written in English. The maximum word count is 15,000 words and there is no minimum. Only one story per entrant will be accepted. The winner of this prestigious prize will receive €15,000. There will also be five runner-up prizes of €1000 each.

Entries are being accepted  from December 1st 2013 and are by post only. Entries must be posted/delivered to:

c/o Dublin UNESCO City of Literature,
Dublin City Libraries,
138-144 Pearse Street,
Dublin 2,
Ireland.

The deadline for receipt of entries is Monday Feb 3rd 2014. There is a €10 entry fee, payable online or by cheque/postal order.
