Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers Program

Deadlines April 3, June 26, September 25, December 11. Recommended free contest gives $10,000 in each genre for books of literary fiction and nonfiction that have been accepted for publication by a US publisher. Deadline varies based on book release date; see website for details. (Note new schedule for 2014; former deadlines were April 4, June 27, September 19, and December 12.) Winners also receive promotion in Barnes & Noble stores. The award is open to authors with fewer than three previously published books who have not yet received a major literary award or whose net sales have yet to reach 10,000 copies. Exceptions can be made for authors who have published more titles but who have not yet broken out to a wider audience. Must be submitted by publisher. No self-published books or e-books.
