Pigott Poetry Prize: 1st April 2014

€5,000 for a published book of poetry by an Irish Poet

Criteria

1.The closing date for entries for the 2014 Prize shall be the 1st April 2014 and entries shall be strictly limited to Books of Poetry published between 1st January 2013 and 28th February 2014.

2. The closing date for subsequent years shall be determined by Listowel Writers’ Week.

3. 6 copies of each book entered for the Pigott Prize should be submitted to “The Pigott Poetry Prize,” Listowel Writers’ Week, 24 The Square, Listowel, Co Kerry on or before the due closing date. No copies of submissions shall be returned.

4. NO formal Application Form is required although the covering letter must clearly state that the book is being entered for the Pigott Poetry Prize.

5. The First Prize is an award of €5,000. It will be awarded to the author of the best eligible Book of Poetry in the opinion of the Adjudicators. The 4 shortlisted books of poetry will each be awarded €250.

6. The Prize may NOT be divided or withheld.

7. The winning author and the first four in the shortlist must each be an Irish writer of the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland or hold an Irish Passport.

8. Each recipient must be living at the time of the award.

9. Books submitted for the award must be works of Poetry.

10. If the book reaches the shortlist in April, Publishers may be required to submit further copies free of charge for publicity.

11. Books will be accepted only from publishers and agents.

12. Online submission will only be accepted from an established imprint and on the condition that six copies are downloaded for the adjudicators’ consideration. In the event that an online book is shortlisted the publisher must undertake to produce hard copies and make these available for sale within 10 days of the announcement of the shortlist.

13. No entry shall be ineligible because its author has won any other prize previously.

14. All submissions are made on a confidential basis save and except that the submission is placed on the shortlist and or adjudicated the winner.

15. The decision of the Literary Director as to whether a book is eligible, shall be binding and final and no correspondence shall be entered into.

16. The adjudicators will be responsible for compiling a shortlist of five outstanding books submitted for the award.

17. The adjudicators are appointed annually by Listowel Writers’ Week and its decision shall be final.

18. Publishers must use their best endeavors to ensure that authors whose books are submitted make themselves available for publicity from the shortlist stage in April 2014.

19. Publishers must ensure that The Pigott Poetry Prize in association with Listowel Writers’ Week is included in the winning author’s biography, on the cover of the winning book and in any future edition of the book.

20. All decisions of Listowel Writers’ Week in any matter concerning the administration, management and or adjudication of this Prize shall be absolute and final.

21. Listowel Writers’ Week reserve the right to amend and alter these criteria in consultation and with the agreement of the Pigott Family.
