PRIME NUMBER MAGAZINE AWARDS

Prime Number Magazine (a Press 53 publication) announces the inaugural Prime Number Magazine Awards with over $2000 in prizes and publication for our winning entries in Poetry, Flash Fiction, Short Story, Flash Nonfiction, and Creative Nonfiction. Before entering, please read the following guidelines carefully.



Submission period: Now until March 31, 2014 online using Submittable, your online submissions manager. Multiple submissions are accepted; each entry requires a separate reading fee.


Finalists announced: No later than June 1, 2014


Winners Announced: No later than August 1, 2014


Reading Fee: $13 per entry


Deadline: March 31


Judges: Our judges are industry professionals and are listed with each category below, with photos and bios at the bottom of the page.


Categories: Please note that author’s name should not appear on manuscript.

Poetry: judged by Erica Dawson

Submit one unpublished poem, single-spaced in standard 12-pt. type. (Times, Courier, etc). If longer than one page, please number. Click here to enter Poetry.


Flash Fiction: judged by (To Be Announced Soon)

Submit one unpublished Flash Fiction (up to 750 words), title at top of page, text double-spaced in standard 12-pt. type. (Times, Courier, etc), with numbered pages. Click here to enter Flash Fiction.

Submit one unpublished Short Story (751-5000 words), title at top of page, text double-spaced in standard 12-pt. type. (Times, Courier, etc), with numbered pages. Click here to enter Short Story.

Prizes:

First Prize in each category: $251 plus publication in Prime Number Magazine and in the Prime Number Magazine, Editors’ Selections print annual.

Second Prize in each category: $101 plus consideration for publication in Prime Number Magazine and in the Prime Number Magazine, Editors’ Selections print annual.

Third Prize in each category: $53 plus consideration for publication in Prime Number Magazine and in the Prime Number Magazine, Editors’ Selections print annual.


Judging:

All work will be read blind. Judges are asked to disqualify any entry that the judge recognizes, so please use your best judgment when submitting. If you know the judge in your category and believe he or she may recognize your work, you may want to reconsidering submitting in that category. Judges' names and bio can be found here.


Eligibility:

Contest is open to writers anywhere in the world who write in English. Press 53 and Prime Number Magazine editors and family members are not eligible. Authors who have published a book-length collection with Press 53 are not eligible. Writers whose work appears in anthologies published by Press 53 are eligible. Judges agree to disqualify any work that, for whatever reason, they may recognize, so use your best judgment when submitting.

Prime Number Magazine reserves the right to extend deadlines if deemed necessary. Multiple entries are accepted with a reading fee for each entry. Simultaneous submissions are accepted but please remove work immediately if accepted elsewhere. Only unpublished works are eligible. Reading fees are non-refundable. Entries with author's name appearing anywhere on the manuscript will not be considered. No refunds will be made. Work withdrawn from the contest will not receive a refund. All submissions must be original works.
