Susan Sontag Prize for Translation
Deadline May 26 (must be received by this date), formerly April 12. Recommended free contest awards a $5,000 fellowship for a translation project by applicants under the age of 30. The contest solicits translations from a different language each year. The 2014 prize is for English translations of a novella, a play, a collection of short stories or poems, or a collection of letters originally written in Mandarin Chinese. Applications available on website; materials should include personal statement, 5-page sample translation accompanied by the same passage in the original language, project proposal, bio and bibliography of the author to be translated, academic transcript, and letter of recommendation.
