Patrick White Indigenous Writers Awards - Deadline August 2014


Who is Patrick White?

Patrick White is one of Australia’s most accomplished writers and an avid supporter of the advancement of Indigenous Australian youth. He was the first Australian writer to receive a Nobel Prize for Literature.
What the Awards Do

The Awards have been designed to encourage Indigenous Australian students in Kindy to Year 12 studying in NSW to use their reading, writing, and creative skills.
Themes for 2014

Kindergarten to Year 12
"Paradise"
"If I had known............"
"It was the strangest thing..........."
Group Competition - Years K-3

The Group section of the competition is offered to support Aboriginal students working together with their classmates to develop a shared story, poem or play.

In the early years of schools group work is encouraged and the AEC would like to support this learning approach.

As long a one member of the class identifies as Aboriginal the work will be accepted. The prizes are awarded on a class by class basis for each of the years Kindy to Year 3. Schools are free to enter as many stories, poems or plays as they like for each class.
Applications

From 2014 applications will close at the end of August each year .

These awards are open to all Indigenous Australian students in NSW from Kindergarten through to Year 12.
Prizes for 2014

A Major Prize and up to 2 Encouragement awards will be determined for a short story or play and a poem for each year -Kindergarten to Year 12
