Lucille's Legacy Publishing's 2014 Storytelling Competition - Deadline: September 30, 2014.
Stories should be unpublished, true, or written as though they were true. We are looking for inspiring, motivational or humorous tales about such subjects as overcoming adversity, an extraordinary act of kindness, about defeating odds, etc. Basically anything that touches our hearts and evokes strong, positive emotion.
We are looking for a range of stories from all walks of life. We seek an authentic, unique voice, and a compelling story. Entries may be religious or secular in nature, about any family-friendly subject.
Entries must be written in English, double-spaced, using 1 inch margins, and 12 point font size. Choose a standard, easy-to-read font type such as Times New Roman, Arial or Courier New. Word count must fall between 750 and 1,500 words, not including title.
Do not include your name or contact information on manuscript pages, as judging is anonymous. You may include a cover sheet, but it is not required. Entries will be accepted through this website ONLY. A form is provided on the submission page. Files accepted are Microsoft Word® (.doc / .docx); OpenOffice (.odt); WordPerfect® (.wpd); RTF; and Adobe® PDF.
Any submission which fails to follow word count guidelines will be automatically disqualified. No refund is possible for disqualified entries. If your submission loses format during submission, it will not count against you, we can fix that. We cannot make your story longer or shorter, however, so please adhere to the word count policy.
Please contact us if you have questions or need assistance, @ support@LLP.com.
Winners will be announced December 31, 2014. A collection of the winning entries, including honorable mentions, will be published in a book and also in an e-book. A short byline and photo will accompany each published entry. Collection will be published/distributed April 27, 2015. No purchase is necessary.

Winners of the top three prizes and honorable mentions agree to allow Lucille’s Legacy Publishing first rights to publish winning entries, and further to publicize the award. Writers retain rights to non-winning entries. Entries not published may be entered in future contests. Published entries may not be re-submitted to future contests.
LLP will never try to sell you any product or service as a condition of publication or contest entry. We do not gather email or personal information from entries for marketing purposes. We do not share email addresses or personal information with any third parties. Entries are judged anonymously. No personal information, including the writer’s name, is shared with judges.
All prizes will be awarded. LLP reserves the right to cancel the contest, only in the case of low interest. If LLP receives 25 or fewer entries, the contest will be cancelled and all entry fees will be refunded.
The number of entrants awarded Honorable Mention and publication will depend entirely upon the number of entries received and the merit of the work. Only entries that meet our publication standards will be considered for the top three winners, or as honorable mentions, regardless of number the of entries received.
Multiple entries are accepted. Authors who submit more than one story are eligible to win more than once in the contest. Each submission is a separate entry, and must be submitted separately. Each entry requires its own entry fee.
In the event we receive more than 25 entries, but an insufficient number of entries to publish at least 100 stories, the winning entries will be combined in a publication with winners of the 2015 competition. Further, if there are insufficient entries in the 2014 competition, there will be no publication distributed in the year 2015, rather, combined winning stories from 2014 and 2015 competitions will instead be published together, on the next publication date, 2016. In the event of delayed publication (beyond December 31, 2015), all winning authors have the right to be released from any rights LLP holds on the entry, without penalty or forfeiture of any prize money awarded.
The following are not permitted to enter the competition: employees of Lucille’s Legacy Publishing, and their immediate families and Lucille’s Legacy Publishing’s contributing editors and correspondents.
THERE WILL BE THREE ROUNDS OF JUDGING:
The first round will be judged by an independent focus group. This group is looking for a compelling story. First round entries will be narrowed by a percentage, to be determined by the number of entries received.
The second round will be judged by a panel of writing professionals. The panel will judge style, originality, command of language, basic writing skills, etc. These will also be narrowed by a percentage, to be determined by the number of entries received.
The final round will be judged by the editors at LLP, we will be looking for unique voices which best represent our brand.
Eligibility: The competition is open to any writer; published or non-published; age 18 or over. There is no country restriction, however, all entries must be written in English. Stories must be original and unpublished, not currently submitted for publication. Entries outside the 750 – 1,500 word limit will be disqualified (no refund will be issued for disqualified entries). Word count does not include title.
Entry fees: The Early-bird entry fee is $10. Early-bird entries must be submitted online by June 23, 2014 (11:59 pm EST). After the Early-bird deadline, the regular entry fee is $20. Regular entries must be submitted online by September 30, 2014 (11:59 pm EST).
Notification: It may not be possible to contact every entrant. Each writer whose entry places first, second or third place, or receives honorable mention will be notified via email, no later than December 31, 2014. If you have not been contacted by this date, you may assume that your entry is not a finalist and may be marketed elsewhere. Monetary prizes will be awarded within two weeks of notification.
