Following the great success of his debut thriller VALBERG last summer – described by international best-selling author of the ‘Jack Reacher’ series Lee Child as ‘first rate’ – lawyer Desmond J Doherty is this week publishing his follow-up crime novel withGuildhall Press (Derry).
SINS OF THE FATHERS, the second of the Valberg trilogy, sees the return of a deadly assassin to the streets of Derry.
And while before, Gerard O’Driscoll inflicted brutal revenge on the jury who wrongly convicted him of child murder, this time he’s working his way up the legal ladder. Police, lawyers, judges – no-one is safe.
Detective Jon Valberg leads the hunt to nail the killer and expose his shadowy accomplices. And soon finds out how personal it’s all about to become.
Writer Doherty – who intends to have the final part of the trilogy ready for next year – says he has been delighted at the reception to the first book. And he is hopeful that the new work will enjoy similar acclaim.
“It was particularly significant to have seasoned crime-writers like Lee Child and Brian McGilloway give their stamp of approval to the first book,” he said.
“And I’m very pleased that Brian – who has developed a stellar career as a crime-writer – has agreed to speak at the launch this week.
“There has also been some interest from the film world in bringing Valberg to our screens which is exciting – although discussions are still at an early stage.”
"First-rate writing, one to watch."
