$50.00. DEADLINE: 07-31-2014. WRITING CONTEST WEBSITE(time left to enter) The Library of Congress is accepting nominations from publishers for the Rebekah Johnson Bobbitt National Prize for Poetry. The 2014 prize will be awarded in the fall. The prize, which carries a $10,000 award, is given biennially. It will be presented to an American poet for the best book published during the previous two years, 2012 and 2013, or for lifetime achievement in poetry. Only publishers may submit entries. The award is made to the author (or authors in the event that the prize is split). Books submitted for the Most Distinguished Book of Poetry must have been published in 2012 or 2013. Authors must be living U.S. citizens. Authors’ first poetry books or books composed of new work will qualify; collected and selected works will qualify only if they include at least thirty new poems previously unpublished in book form. The three-member 2014 jury will make its nomination to the Librarian of Congress in early fall 2014. The Center provides the Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry position, organizes a yearly season of readings, performances, lectures, seminars, and panel discussions, and funds prominent prizes and fellowships for prose and poetry.
