BBC Tributes To Seamus Heaney #seanocarolan #poetry #poems #Heaney #writing #News

Heaney On Air: A BBC Tribute

Heaney on Air is a tribute to Seamus Heaney's work for the BBC. It will include a selection of archive screenings and an illustrated talk by Pat Loughrey on Seamus Heaney's programmes for local schools and our Nobel laureate's skills as a writer of scripts and presenter. It promises to be a memorable event, unlocking the archive and celebrating Seamus Heaney as one of our most gifted broadcasters - a public intellectual whose voice was familiar (and immediately recognisable) to BBC audiences at home and around the world.

Heaney On Air: BBC Archive Screenings
Friday 12 September, 2pm
The Stables, Laurel Villa, Magherafelt
Seamus Heaney made a number of programmes for BBC radio and television in Northern Ireland. He was a natural communicator, someone who could make broadcasting seem easy. At a time when many people feel that television can't deal with big ideas or literary themes, his work shows what can be done. These screenings allow us to see and remember his talents and remind us why his influence extended far beyond the academy and world of literature. They will be preceded by a short film tribute to Seamus Heaney's many other appearances on BBC television.
Screenings: The Loughsiders, Something to Write Home About
