The George Markstein Fiction Prize

The competition is now open

Kingston Writing School is pleased to announce the launch of an exciting new writing prize in partnership with literary agency Marjacq Scripts. The prize is named after George Markstein the late co-founder of the agency who was a esteemed novelist and scriptwriter in the 1960s, 70s and early 80s, best known as a writer of thrillers and spy novels (and perhaps best of all as co-creator of THE PRISONER with the late Patrick McGoohan).

Marjacq Scripts is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the founding of the agency by teaming up with KWS for this new competition, which looks to identify fresh, new voices among the talented students and alumni of Kingston University’s MA, MFA & PhD courses in Creative Writing.

The Prize is open to all past and present Kingston University PG students of Creative Writing for works of fiction in any genre. Marjacq Scripts' agents will select three winners, who will receive trophies as part of Graduation Ceremonies in January 2015. The winners will also be considered for representation by the agency. Two runners-up will have their work professionally critiqued in a one-on-one meetings with an agent.

Entries must be at least 60,000 words in length.

Entrants should email a full manuscript of their work in PDF, DOC or TXT format, along with a synopsis of maximum 500 words tomarksteinfiction@marjacq.com, with the subject-line “George Markstein Fiction Prize entry”.
