The VCU Cabell First Novelist Award - $5,000 Prize #seanocarolan #writing #prize #contests #competitions

The Cabell First Novelist Awardsponsored by Virginia Commonwealth University celebrates a remarkable first book released in the previous year. Personified by a 3-pointed compass, the Award recognizes and salutes authors who have maneuvered their way through the labyrinth of mental creative madness--authors and writers who have designed their own compasses and developed their own unique characters, plots, and personality to produce an outstanding novel. Two times annually, the regulatory team publicizes a national "call for entries." The initial round of reviews are conducted by the University's panel of experts, the public community of Richmond, and librarians at VCU. From that short list of 3-4 potential finalists, notable judges select the first-place winner. The winner gets a $5,000 cash award, a celebration, and publicity. The Award encourages creative thinking among fiction writing undergrads and graduates. VCU also uses the winning novel in course materials throughout different curriculums.
