Judging by Tracy Chevalier

We are delighted that TRACY CHEVALIER has agreed to choose the four prizewinning stories.

She is author of seven novels, most recently The Last Runaway. Ms Chevalier is best known for the international best-seller Girl with a Pearl Earring which has sold over 5 million copies, been translated into 39 languages and made it into a film. She grew up in Washington DC and in 1984 moved to London, where she lives with her husband and son.

Tracy is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and has judged several awards, including the Orange Prize, the Jewish Quarterly Prize and the Bridport Prize. We are honoured that she has generously volunteered to adjudicate our competition.

Tracy will judge the winning stories from a shortlist selected by a team of experienced readers. A Trustee of the Charity will oversee the receipt of entries and secure recording of writers’ details. Each story will be read and assessed at least twice.

Results will be announced on April 25th 2015 when Ms Chevalier will be in Bridgwater to present the prizes. Shortlisted authors will be notified in advance. Results and (with permission) the prize-winning stories will be published on the website.

Donations

Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and of all the volunteers (including Tracy Chevalier, who has waived any payment), the entire proceeds of this competition will be devoted to the Charity’s work for families in Bridgwater and the surrounding rural communities.

As a writer entering the Prize, please do consider topping up the entry fee with an additional donation, however small (which can be Gift-Aided).
