This is the competition in which we suggest the first line of a story and invite you to write the rest of the story (in 1,500-1,700 words). This year your first line is: She walked the streets, not knowing where to go or what to do.
Clearly your character here has a problem, but what that problem is and how she resolves it (if she does) is up to you to sort out as your write the rest of the story.

1. Eligibility
Entry is open to any writer and entries must be the original and unpublished work of the entrant which is not currently submitted for publication nor for any other competition or award. There is no limit to number of entries. Entrants retain copyright in their manuscripts.
2. Entry Fees
Fee for each entry is £5 BUT ONLY £3 for subscribers to Writing Magazine.
3. Manuscripts
Manuscripts can be uploaded in pdf, doc, docx and txt formats.
Short story manuscripts - please layout your entry in double spacing with a front page stating your name, address, phone number and email address. Please also state story title and word count.
