Traverse Theatre Company Accepting Scripts - 30th March 2015 #seanocarolan.com #Writing #Plays #Scripts

Submitting your script to the Traverse Theatre

Thanks To Lynne
The Traverse has rich history of working with some of the most adventurous playwrights in Scotland and around the world. We are always looking for brave new voices with challenging stories to tell and new writers to engage with the Traverse community.

Open Script Submissions introduce us to writers we may not otherwise know, as well as encouraging submissions from those with whom we have an existing relationship.

We engage with writers in a number of ways throughout the year. Long-term roles, including fellowships, attachments, commissions and full productions, run alongside unique opportunities for readings, scratch nights and taking part in development sessions and workshops.

We will be accepting submissions from 23rd January 2015 to 30th March 2015.

If you are considering sending your play to us, the first step is to make yourself familiar with our current programme and read scripts for some of the plays that the Traverse Theatre Company has recently produced. These include Spoiling (2014) by John McCann, Quiz Show (2013) by Rob Drummond, Ciara (2013) by David Harrower and The Artist Man and the Mother Woman (2012) by Morna Pearson. We also recommend you come and see some shows at the Traverse and familiarise yourself with the specific character of both of our spaces, the expansive Traverse 1 and the intimate Traverse 2. We know that powerful stories, exploring big ideas, work best on our stages. We look for stories with as much heart as head, for writers that have something new to say about the world today or something new to say about theatre.

We also ask that you carefully read through the submission guidelines below before deciding whether the Traverse is the right theatre for your work.

Guidelines

Please make sure you feel the play you submit best represents your work to date, and that this is the right time in your development to introduce us to your work. We encourage writers at any stage of their careers to send us work through Open Submissions.
To ensure an unbiased response to your script, we have decided to retain writers' anonymity when reading scripts received through Open Submissions.
Please check your play is clearly formatted, with page numbers, cast list and potential cast doubling noted before sending it to us.
We do not have the resources to read:
plays that have already been produced elsewhere.
musicals, adaptations, poems, novels, short stories, or television, film or radio scripts.
We would also advise against sending us biographical stories or history plays as the first example of your work.
We can only accept one script per year from each writer.
We will not accept redrafts for reading.
For this submission window (23 Jan - 30 Mar), we are inviting plays from writers who are based in Scotland, Wales, England, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. We have a number of ongoing relationships with international companies, so if you live outside of the countries named we encourage you to make connections with your own country's leading new writing theatre so they can advocate on your behalf.
All plays must be sent through our online submissions service, Submittable.

We receive hundreds of scripts each year and endeavour to provide a response to all plays within 6 months. If, after reading your script, we find your voice particularly compelling, we will provide brief and, hopefully, useful feedback.

Unfortunately, our resources do not allow us to provide feedback to all writers. Our priority has to be generating work for the Traverse.

Finally, we would like to acknowledge the courage it takes to share your work with us and the time and effort it takes to write a play. Therefore, we thank you for your submission regardless of whether, after consideration, we feel it's suited to the Traverse or not.

Submitting Your Script

If you feel you are ready to send your script to the Traverse Theatre, please visit our submissions manager Submittable at /writing/open-submissions.

Follow the onscreen instructions to set up a Submittable account and complete the submissions form.

To ensure an unbiased response to your script, we maintain the anonymity of all writers when reading scripts received through Open Submissions. To aid this process, we ask that you remove your name and contact details from the script document and include them only on the submission form. This allows our team of trained readers to focus solely on the writing.

The Open Script Submissions are managed by the Traverse Artistic team including Artistic Director, Orla O'Loughlin, Associate Director, Emma Callander and Artistic Administrator, Catherine Makin. If you have any questions, please contact Catherine.
