Writing Times Short Story Competition

Writing Times Short Story 2015 Competition is open to all published and unpublished, UK and non-UK based male and female writers over 16 years of age. The theme is animals; this can be about any kind of animal be it a family pet, a zoo animal or one in the wild. Use your imagination and have fun, all genres are accepted. Submissions must be a minimum of 1500 and a maximum of 2000 words. The winner will have their short story published in the magazine, win £50.00 and have a feature article published on them. The runner up will have their story published and win £25.00.

Entry details, rules and regulations to the competition are listed below –

1 – All entries must be sent using the form online.
2 – Entry will cost £4.00, a winner will be chosen who will win £50.00 and have their story published in the magazine. You can pay online via PayPal or credit card. You can also pay by cheque, making it payable to Susan Cawte. The postal address is 412 Thorold Road, Ilford, Essex, IG1 4HF. Multiple entries are allowed, but each requires the £4 fee.
3 - Entries will not be returned. No changes will be allowed once an entry is submitted.
4 - All entries submitted must be work which has not been published elsewhere or been submitted to another competition which is currently still open.
5 – All entries must be your own original work. Any entry found to be plagiarised or printed elsewhere will be disqualified.
6 – All entries submitted must clearly state their name, address, email address and contact telephone number on their submission.
7 – If necessary the winning entry may be edited for publication by Writing Times.
8 – The winner will be notified within one month after the closing date. The judges decision is final. Winning entries may not submit their work elsewhere without the permission of Writing Times.
9 - The closing date for entries is midnight (BST) 31st March 2015.


1st: £50, published story in the magazine, and a feature article about the winning author.
2nd: £25, story published in the magazine.
The 20 shortlisted authors will be listed online in April. Winners will be announced 1st May 2015.
