Sonora Review 2015 Essay Prize:

$1000 and publication in Issue 68 of Sonora Review will be awarded for our annual essay contest judged by Amy Leach, author of the essay collectionThings that Are. This year’s contest will be a special award for miniature nonfiction, no more than 800 words per essay. Hybrid work is welcome, but no excerpts from longer memoirs. Each entry must be a complete story/essay unto itself. All finalists will also be considered for publication in Issue 68. Submit a work of unpublished nonfiction, up to 800 words, by May 15th. Entry fee: $15. Include a cover letter with full name, title of work, mailing and email address, and phone number. The author’s name should not appear anywhere on the manuscript. Submissions must be previously unpublished.

Raised in Texas, Amy Leach holds an MFA in Nonfiction from the University of Iowa and her work has appeared in numerous literary journals and reviews. She has been recognized with the Whiting Writers’ Award and the Rona Jaffe Award. Her book of essays,Things That Are, was published in 2012 with Milkweed. $1000 and publication in Issue 68 of Sonora Review will be awarded for our annual fiction contest judged by Stuart Dybek. All finalists will be considered for publication in Issue 68. Submit your absolute best, most imaginative fiction, up to 6,000 words, by May 15th 2015. Entry fee $15. Include a cover letter with full name, title of work, mailing and email address, and phone number. The author’s name should not appear anywhere on the manuscript. Submissions must be previously unpublished.

Sonora Review 2015 Poetry Prize:

$1000 and publication in Issue 68 of Sonora Review will be awarded for our annual poetry contest judged by Rusty Morrison. Please submit 3 to 5 pages of poetry. Entry fee: $15. Your submission should be typed and submitted in one document, with the titles separated by commas in the “Submission Title” field. You may abbreviate the titles if they do not fit. Include a cover letter with a brief biography, your contact information and any other pertinent information about your submission. Please remove your name or any other identifying marks from your manuscript before uploading. Submissions must be previously unpublished.
