Alfred Bradley Bursary Award 2015/16 | Deadline: October 8, 2015
The Alfred Bradley Bursary Award is looking for fresh new radio drama writers living in the North of England
The Alfred Bradley Bursary Award is offering a £5,000 writing bursary and the chance of a Radio 4 drama commission to Northern writers new to radio. You don’t need to write a radio drama to enter, but you do need to demonstrate a fresh and original writing voice.
Radio Drama North in conjunction with BBC Writersroom has launched the Alfred Bradley Bursary Award 2015-16. The Award was established in 1992 to commemorate the life and work of Alfred Bradley, the distinguished BBC Radio Drama Producer. Previous winners include Lee Hall, Peter Straughan, Cat Jones and Furquan Akhtar.
The aim of the Award is to encourage new radio drama writing in the North of England. The award winner will be offered a £5,000 writing bursary, the chance of a Radio 4 drama commission and a 12 month mentorship with a Radio Drama producer.
The judging panel for entries will include Jeremy Howe (Radio Drama Commissioner); Sue Roberts (Editor, Radio Drama North and The Verb): Anne Edyvean (Head of BBC Writersroom); Rachel Dixon (daughter of Alfred Bradley) and experienced industry professionals.
What we're looking for:
Original, compelling and imaginative storytelling, in a script suitable for broadcast in the Radio 4 Mon-Fri 2.15-3pm drama slot. The Judges are particularly interested in scripts which focus on stories from the Northern community.
(2.15pm weekdays or listen again http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qrzz)
For insipiration, check out some recent examples of scripts on the Writersroom’s script library and sign up for the Radio Drama newsletter to check out Radio 4’s current productions.
Who can apply:
The award is open to writers who currently reside in the North of England on a permanent/full time basis. This opportunity is not open to writers who have previously had a drama broadcast on BBC radio.
How to enter:
We invite writers to submit an original script, in any format. The script can be for radio, TV, stage or film but must be at least 30 pages in length. Up to 5 shortlisted writers will then be invited to take part in a three month development process with BBC Radio Drama North to work on their submission, or a new script, for the final judging process. Please refer to clause 14 of the T&Cs for further details.
Submissions will open from 10am on Monday 21st September 2015 and close at 5pm on Thursday 8thOctober 2015.
Submit your script via the BBC Writersroom online e-submission system (insert hyperlink). All scripts must be submitted in PDF format.
Read the FAQs for the BBC Writersroom online submission system.
If you are unable to submit your script online for any reason, please refer to clauses 4 & 5 of the Terms & Conditions.
Before entering, please read the full Terms and Conditions for the award.
