PDSA Animal Heroes Writing Competition 2017 – NOW OPEN!
Hilary Robinson, award-winning children’s writer, has teamed up with PDSA to launch our ‘Animal Heroes’ writing competition and celebrate the 20th anniversary of World Book Day.
Her new book, Flo of the Somme tells the story of a dog who worked on the World War 1 battlefields, delivering medical supplies to injured soldiers. We decided to use the same important theme of animals who help for our 2017 competition.
Hilary’s written the beginning, middle and end of the story; Buddy saves the day. All you need to do is write your story, using the notes in each section.

Beginning
Buddy came to live with twins, Jess and James, when their grandma moved into a care home. Think about…
What kind of pet is Buddy, what kind of personality does he have and what does he look like?
Why did Buddy’s owner (Jess and James’ Grandma) have to move into care home?
Did Buddy settle in well when he came to live with them or did he miss their Grandma? How could they tell?
Middle
Each day, Jess and James’ mum took Buddy to work with her at the Bishopdown Express newspaper. Everyone in the office loved Buddy. But one day, there was panic at the office when… Think about…
What happened at the office to cause panic?
What did Buddy do to help?
How did he ‘save the day’ and become a hero?
End
Jess and James’ Mum told Buddy’s story in the Bishopdown Express – ‘Buddy saves the Day'
What would’ve happened if Buddy hadn’t been in the office on the day?
How did everyone thank Buddy?
Was he given a special award for his help?
