POETRY PRIZE
We pleased to announce the launch of this prestigious annual Poetry Prize. The winner receives a cash prize and worldwide publication of their work in an anthology of poetry together with twenty-four other shortlisted entries.
The poetry prizes, together with those for Short Story and Scriptwriting are presented at a televised award ceremony held in December and attended by celebrities from the world of literature and entertainment. In 2018 we hope to include video links to any winners who are unable to be present. You can see photos from the previous events here.
The feedback option proved very popular in our 2017 competition with over 40% of entries choosing to receive advice and guidance on their work from industry professionals.
Despite its international appeal, we expect the Poetry Prize, to remain small and exclusive, attracting a high standard rather than a high number of entries. With the top twenty-five entries included in the 2018 anthology, it provides the best opportunity for publication of poetry with Hammond House.
The theme for 2018 PRECIOUS, is intended to be inspirational, not restrictive, please feel free to interpret it in any way you choose. Be creative, be unpredictable, be different; the judges will be eternally grateful if you can make them feel the honesty and the emotion as well as the intellect and rigour in your poem.
There are no limits to line length or word count, so both Haiku and Epic poems fit the bill. The judges each write poetry of varying styles, and appreciate poetry, from a wide variety of national and international writers, trawl wide, dig deep, and take care with your words.
A short pamphlet containing up to seven or so of your other poetry may be submitted in support of your poem entry, to provide the judges with a context for your poem in relation to your wider body of work. Please ensure this does not have your name on it. The final Judgement will be made on the poem entry alone, not the wider work.
