The Dylan Thomas Birthplace

The Dylan Thomas Birthplace International Short Story Competition 2018 is a great opportunity for creative young people to have fun developing their unique short story.

Dylan was a precocious young writer who produced his first book of poetry at the age of nineteen. That’s why we’ve set the age limit as under 19 on his birthday - 27th October 2018. Although Dylan produced the vast majority of his published work by the age of nineteen he started writing at a young age so we have a separate competition for aspiring writers aged fifteen and under.

Whilst we have some great prizes everyone who enters is a winner and will receive a year’s membership of the Dylan Thomas Society

For this year’s topics we’ve chosen a watery theme to tie in with 2018 being the Visit Wales Year of the Sea.

However, the title is just the start to feed your inspiration – where you go is influenced by you, your imagination, the sight, sounds and the smell of the countryside and towns around you. The closing date for entries is midnight (BST) on 21st December and winners will be announced in the New Year.

Age Groups There are two age groups – under 15 years old and 15 to under 19 years old. The cut-off date being 27th October 2018 – Dylan’s birthday.

Entry Fees You can enter as many stories as you wish and select from the drop down list below. Make sure you keep your PayPal Transaction Number and Account Name to attach to the Entry Form. Without these we cannot identify you.

Maggie's Cancer Centres Maggie's is the Birthplace charity of 2018 and will benefit from the competition
