ENTER WAWA LOVE COMPETITION

We at ‘Ireland Writing Retreat’ are delighted to support you and other fellow writers worldwide by launching the third edition of our popular ‘Wild Atlantic Writing Awards’ (WAWA) competition, with 1,000 euro in total prize money.

Choosing Valentine’ Day weekend to launch this competition, we have chosen what we consider the most natural of themes – Love - with entries welcome in two separate categories:

flash fiction and creative nonfiction.

Deadline for submissions: Sunday, May 2, 2021
ENTER WAWA LOVE COMPETITION

Flash Fiction Award

This category is open to all genres – sci-fi, crime, romance, horror, humor, thriller, fantasy, mystery, whatever tickles you and your Muse’s fancy - but on one single theme:

Love

In other words, upon reading your story, judges are left in no doubt that Love is a key element. The word ‘love’ or a variant of it such as ‘loving’ or ‘lover’ cannot be used in your story.

Maximum length 500 words (please be mindful of this requirement, even one word over the limit can disqualify your entry). Maximum length does not include the title.

PRIZE - The winner will receive 500 euro in cash.

The top ten finalists will receive special ‘Ireland Writing Retreat’ certificates, plus the chance to have their stories published on our website with photographs and relevant back links.

Creative Nonfiction Award

As for our creative nonfiction competition, we offer you a similar challenge. To write a story of not more than 500 words (not including the title) inspired by the same subject:

Love

Your story can be in the form of memoir, profile, literary journalism, personal essay, food, travel (and remember, award-winning travel articles don't have to be about exotic destinations, it could be about your own hometown), or any creative nonfiction category you prefer. Upon reading competition entries, judges should be left in no doubt that love, in its multitude of expressions, is a key element of your story. The word ‘love’ or a variant of it such as ‘loving’ or ‘lover’ cannot be used in your story.

PRIZE - The winner will receive 500 euro in cash. The top ten finalists will receive special ‘Ireland Writing Retreat’ certificates, plus the chance to have their stories published on our website with photographs and relevant back links.

Unleash your creative abilities during this period of ‘social distancing’ to portray one of the most complex of emotions.
